Stanford’s accredited Gas Technician 1 (G1) Certificate program complies with Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) curriculum requirements and Canadian Standards Association Group (CSA) standards and codes.
Stanford’s G1 training program prepares students for the G1 Certification Examination offered through the TSSA.
The program is delivered through a combination of lectures and practical hands-on workshops. Evaluation methods include written and practical tests, and assignments.
Instruction is provided by a licensed G1 instructor who is experienced in both teaching and working in the gas technician field.

Admission Requirements
- An Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or
- Students are 18 years of age or older and pass a Superintendent approved qualifying test

To be eligible to work as a licensed G1, graduates must successfully complete the TSSA G1 Certification Examination.
A licensed G1 gas technician may install, inspect, alter, purge, activate, repair, service or remove a natural gas or propane appliance of any BTU input and the equipment and accessories essential to its operation.
Employment opportunities may be found with companies that install/service/repair gas appliances or with gas utility companies. Licensed G1 graduates may apply for positions such as:

- Gas Fitter 1
- Gas Service Technician
- Journeyman Gas Installer
- Lead Installer
